four walls, no walls, you and me.

overload

I think there are too many words in my world right now. I’m reading two books, and 3 issues of my sister’s new yorker and listening to this american life online and talking too much and now I am overloaded. Words that were once heavy and locked into place are now floating about and my eyes merely skim them and then they are gone. Wordiness. Can’t use words. Definately can’t read words. Certainly don’t understand them. It seems like another language that I only half know. Maybe that is the truest thing I know; that I don’t know and I can’t speak the language to figure it out.

Story of the Day #1

Yesterday you asked me for my leg. I was sitting on the sofa reading and would not need it for a few hours (it was a really good book) so I said, Of course Darling. You may have my Leg. You took my leg and returned a few hours later with it. I said to you Darling, are you done with my Leg? To which you replied, No Dear, not yet. So I slept on the sofa until morning. The sun Rose and again I asked you, Darling, are you finished with my Leg? Yes dear, you said. You brought it back to me and put it on the floor next to the sofa. So My leg was back.

Today you asked me for my arm. I was sitting on the patio drinking tea so I said, I am drinking tea, Will my Left Arm do?  You said, I suppose. . . and looked disappointed. So I gave you my Right Arm and that bright smile lit up your face. It made me happy that my simple arm could be the cause of that not so simple smile, so I was glad to give it up.

You’ve been gone for days now and it is hard to brush my teeth with my Left hand. I am so used to doing things with my Right hand. I trust the stability of my Right Hand. My Left hand is not so stable. Everything I pick up wobbles. When I went to get the paper this morning the neighbors gave me funny looks. Some of their eyes said Poor Girl, She’s lost her arm at last. Some eyes said Stupid Girl, How could she just give her arm up like that? My eyes said nothing because I did not know what to say. So I smiled. And They smiled back.

It’s been two weeks since I last saw my Right Arm. The funny thing is that My Leg is starting to Go too. I woke up and it was next to the Sofa. I did not recall putting it there. I do Recall going to sleep with two Legs and one Arm.

a dream

I had a dream last night that I was writing and suddenly the tines of my fountain pen opened up and split in half, then got wider and wider, and then eventually wilted.
